“I feel privileged as a documenter of this world,” says Kyer Wiltshire, chosen as this year’s Best Photographer. “I love working with people, co-creating images. The photography that fascinates me most involves people showing who they truly are. That’s the most rewarding part of my art.”

Kyer began taking pictures as a teenager, documenting his outdoor lifestyle backpacking and climbing in the Pacific Northwest, then living in Spain and Latin America. He began photographing the West Coast festival culture in 2001, drawn by the beautifully adorned attendees and performers. Now, as author of Tribal Revival: West Coast Festival Culture, a gorgeous coffee table book that is slated for release later this year, Kyer provides a unique window through which to view the world of special events and moments.

Wiltshire has resided in Santa Cruz for 13 years. He photographs weddings, portraits and does commercial work for merchants such as Goddesswear, Om Gallery and the Santa Cruz Integrative Medicine and Chi Center. Remarks Wiltshire, “Whether I’m photographing a wedding or a festival, it’s my hope to capture a person or moment in a way that reveals their essence.”

Kyer has expanded his creative talents photographing erotic fire dancing, aerial dance, fire dancing with Phoenix Rising, Nocturnal Sunshine, LuminEssence along with many talented performers such as international magician Jeff McBride, Heavy Hips Belly Dance, Mir and Company Aerial Dance, Xeno, Mutaytor, El Circo, Apsara Dance, Mystic Family Circus, Living Tarot, Living Folklore, Yoga Motion and Cirque du Soleil. Kyer published his beautiful outdoor nude yoga photos in the Sacred Form Yoga 2005 and 2006 calendars.

Besides Bay Area weddings, commercial work in Santa Cruz and portraiture, Kyer photographs parties, events, such as Anon Salon, nude yoga, nudes in nature, erotic nudes, Santa Cruz fire dance and dancing, Burning Man.

Kyer’s travel photographing includes images and pictures from Bali, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Mexico, Guatemala, Chile, Argentina, Venezuela, Brazil and Costa Rica. Kyer currently resides in Santa Cruz, California.
